WHAT + WHY
Join us to proclaim your solidarity with the sexual assault prevention movement! April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and SARA staff, volunteers, educators, students, and other neighbors and friends will all walk together through Downtown Charlottesville to demonstrate our commitment to ending sexual violence in our community.
There are three ways you can participate:
- Register as an individual and then join a team or create your own, inviting friends, family and coworkers to walk with you.
- Donate to your favorite team or individual.
- Sponsor the event by contacting SARA at firstname.lastname@example.org.
*You must register as an individual before you can create or join a team! Registration is $25. No fee for kids under age 10.
Decorate your shoes!
Men, women and children are invited to participate and to wear the craziest shoes they can find or create. Walkers will be wearing sneakers, boots, heels, sandals or whatever they like. Some will decorate their shoes with sequins or glitter, some will write the name of a survivor or other loved one on their shoes. There will be prizes for the most creative shoes.
Your generosity to “Walk a Mile for SARA” goes towards the Sexual Assault Resource Agency's counseling, advocacy and support services for local sexual assault survivors and their families, as well as prevention education programs in local middle and high schools. SARA is the only agency to provide these services in the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. We have been doing this for over 40 years.
